ENG4UC: The IB English HL course is built on the assumption that literature is concerned with our conceptions, interpretations, and experiences of the world. Students are encouraged to appreciate the artistry of literature and the impact of authorial choices. All texts will be understood according to their form, content, purpose, and audience and through the social, historical, and cultural contexts that produce and value them. The course will encourage independent, original, critical, and clear thinking demonstrated through written and oral expression. The second component of the IB English HL course, ENG 4UC will foster the continued development of student analytical and communication skills. Students will complete their reading of the IB Works in Translation and complete the formal IB Written Assignment, as essay of 1500 words. Students will also study poetry and two literary texts -- one drama and one novel -- that will serve as the basis of the Independent Oral Commentary, a formal IB evaluation task. The course will end with an exam modeled upon the IB exam format that the students will complete in May of grade 12. |
