ENG3UC: The IB English HL course is built on the assumption that literature is concerned with our conceptions, interpretations, and experiences of the world. Students are encouraged to appreciate the artistry of literature and the impact of authorial choices. All texts will be understood according to their form, content, purpose, and audience and through the social, historical, and cultural contexts that produce and value them. The course will encourage independent, original, critical, and clear thinking demonstrated through written and oral expression. The first component of the IB English HL course, ENG 3UC will provide the foundation for effective textual analysis and deconstruction. Students will study a variety of literary genres and will have their introduction to the IB Works in Translation. This component will see students complete their first formal IB evaluation task -- the Independent Oral Presentation -- and will end with an exam modeled upon the formal IB exam format. |
